Is there a way to update my drivers for free?

by matt on July 12, 2009

Q: Windows prompts me to update my drivers. I installed my Dell driver reset tool and still have had an issue from time to time. I go online and no matter which free driver or driver update site I click on I end up to be Driver Detective which, tells me that I have over 29 outdated or missing drivers.

Can I get the drivers that I supposedly need for free from another source or plunk down $30.00 to this service to do them for me? It’s not the money that bugs me as much how this service goes about getting you on the site. Any feedback would be welcomed.

How come iTunes runs so slow on my windows computer?

by Guest Geek on July 8, 2009

Q: Why does my iTunes run so slow?

I am running windows vista on my 17″ hp pavilion dv9000 with 2GB of RAM. In my iTunes library I have less than 15 albums. I do not have many other applications open and my windows media player does not run slow where I have over 100 albums in it. But my iTunes does especially when I use cover flow. Why is this? Is this because its running on a PC and not a Mac or what?

Fix printer is not spooling

by matt on July 1, 2009

Q: My Lexmark E234 printer has stopped working. I get an error that says the printer is not spooling. I uninstalled the printer and tried to reinstall but it still does not work. My printer is approximately 1.5 years old. Do I need to update the driver or just get a new printer?

A: The first thing you should do is download and install the latest driver for your Lexmark E234 printer. If this does not fix your problem then there is a great entry over at the Microsoft Knowledge Base where they have a utility to fix the printer is not spooling error.

How can I figure out what is causing my blue error screen?

by Guest Geek on June 17, 2009

Q: A while back when I was going to turn off my computer it it would restart again about 50% of the time. I did a little research and found out that this was because there was some sort of error with possibly new software or new drivers. I found out that I could change this so that the computer wouldn’t restart and instead a sort of blue screen would appear where I could see what the error was. Of course I have no idea what to make of it and was wondering if you guys had any advice on what I can do to fix this problem.

The blue error screen said

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

then there was some text about “if this is the first time this happens restart the computer…”
