How come wireless does not work on my HP computer after downgrading from Vista to XP?

by on January 17, 2011

Q: I am having trouble with my sister’s laptop. It’s an HP Pavilion dv6700. Originally it came with Windows Vista but I decided that it would be better if I put Windows XP Professional on it instead. For some reason though the built-in wireless doesn’t want to work anymore. I did all the updates and everything and installed HP Wireless assistant but it says WLAN: DISABLED. No matter what I try, nothing works. I tried the wireless switch to turn it on and it didn’t work. I tried looking in Device manager and it doesn’t have any wireless adapters. I looked in the BIOS and it also doesn’t have anything that has the option to enable it. I even went to the HP website and downloaded the network drivers and all that and nothing. Any ideas? It says that the device manager is the thing disabling it but like i said before, it doesn’t show anything about a wireless driver.

Can my Gateway 6518GZ Notebook connect to a wireless network?

by on January 12, 2011

Q: My boyfriend has a Gateway 6518GZ Notebook. He keeps saying it has a wireless modem & just needs me to figure out whats wrong with it get the drivers or whatever so that he can sign on to the internet using our Wifi at home. Checking out the specs.. the modem is listed as: 56K ITU V.92 ready Fax/Modem. But there is a network spec that says: IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless LAN 802.11g. So.. i wanna ask a geek, cause i don’t think this thing can do what he wants it to. Can this computer given the info above connect to our WiFi (if it had correct drivers)?

Is there anyway to get Alfa wireless working with a Vizio blu-ray player?

by on December 28, 2010

Q: I just got a Vizio blu-ray with apps player that connects to the internet via ethernet, as a present. I do not have a modem and have been getting the internet wireless with the help of an Alfa wireless network adapter to my laptop. The Vizio has a usb port and I tried plugging the alfa adapter into it but it didn’t recognize any network. My question is, is there a way to get wireless internet to my vizio player and its ethernet cable? If there is a way, is there a better way and a more cost effective way. I realize I should have just gotten the wireless version, but this was a present and I want them to see it works for me.
