Burning DVDs in Windows XP

by on September 10, 2007

Q: I use a computer that runs Windows XP and has a combo drive (CD-RW and DVD-RW). I want to save and write files to a DVD RW, but Windows always defaults to CD and asks that I put in a CD-RW in. How do I write to DVD instead with Windows?

A: There are a lot of DVD burning software packages out there. Nero is a very well regarded application, and it ships with a lot of DVD burners. There are also free options like CDBurnerXP Pro and ImgBurn that will allow you to burn both CDs and DVDs with ease. You can also search Lifehacker and Freeware Arena for more free or low cost options.
