How to Recover Deleted Files and Folders

Q: I would like to restore one folder that was damaged. Problem is when I go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools and then click on System Restore, there is no Backup or Restore to select. The System Restore is there, but I don’t want to restore the whole thing, just one folder. Is it lost or can you help me find it.

A: System Restore is used to restore your Operating System to a previous state. Essentially the only files that change are Operating System and Application related files. It will not Delete or Restore files or folders that you have created.

If you need to find a folder or files you have deleted, you should use a recovery program like Undelete Plus. This application will allow you to search your hard drive for deleted files, and you will be able to save them to another folder. Please be aware that not all file recovery applications will be able to find the files you are looking for. The longer you wait to try to recover files, the more difficult the recovery process will be. If you have formatted your hard drive since the files were deleted, recovery may be impossible.
