On some computers, Windows Vista actually runs more slowly than Windows XP.

Do you run a disk cleanup & defrag (or other maintenance programs) on your computer’s main hard drive at least once per month? If not, that is probably why your computer is running so slowly.

Some maintenance programs that may help:
    http://www.ccleaner.com/
    http://www.recuva.com/
    http://www.defraggler.com/

If the above programs do not help, you may need to reinstall Windows in order to make your computer run faster. I recommend that your choose Windows Vista if that is the version of Windows that originally came with your computer. Otherwise, Windows XP may be a better choice.

Let me know how your situation progresses.
