How come I cannot get a USB pen drive and USB mouse to work at the same time?

by on February 28, 2009

Q: In these last few days, whenever I attach a new pen drive and optical mouse to my PC, a window comes up requesting for the installation of a new hardware (which obviously is never found because no CD came with the mouse or pen drive).

Subsequently both mouse and pen drive doesn’t work on my PC. I’ve already tried them on my laptop and they worked just fine (with no installation required).

I don’t think it’s a USB problem with my PC because everything else that has long been attached to the PC (through USB connection) works just fine!

  1.

WITHOUT the USB pen drive attached, install and run all parts of both tools in CCleaner, which can be downloaded from: http://www.ccleaner.com/

Restart your computer, and try again to use your pen drive and mouse at the same time. If that fails, consider using a USB to PS/2 adapter to plug your mouse into the circular mouse port that is available on most Windows-based desktop computers.

PS: My Windows Vista computer used to “forget” that my USB mouse was attached. Using the USB to PS/2 adapter which came with that mouse, my computer now always “remembers” that my mouse is connected.

    Does this help?
