How come I still hear music even though my speaker volume is turned off?
by xsoysauce on March 9, 2009Q: My speaker volume is turned all the way down but there is still music and sound playing. I figured the speakers are not the problem. I think I have a virus. How do I fix this?
There is some power output on your speaker line that runs from your computer to your speakers. This allows a pair of headphones to work without having to be plugged into a separate power source.
I’d suggest using the Mute feature in Windows. If your keyboard happens to have a mute button, just push that. If it doesn’t you can try the instructions here to create an icon on your desktop that can quickly mute your speakers. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/create-a-shortcut-or-hotkey-to-mute-the-system-volume-in-windows/
