Swap two hard drives in your laptop

by on July 3, 2009

Q: I switch between two internal hard drives for my T61 laptop. I want to make sure that there is no cache or other type of memory that could possibly transfer from one drive to the other when they are switched out.

A: There is no cache built into your laptop that would store information and then later transfer it between the two drives. The only way you will be able to swap data between the drives (assuming that’s something you eventually want to be able to do) would be to use a 3rd storage device, like a USB memory stick.

Having two hard drives for your laptop is a great way to keep your personal and work life separate without having to worry about data getting mixed up.
