What video card would a hardcore WoW player need?

by on July 17, 2009

Q: I am building a new system to replace my 6 year old system. I play WoW (World of Warcraft) and I need a system that will handle raids and even multi-boxing (having more than one instance of WoW open at once). I have decided to go with the MSI X58 Platinum SLI Barebone Kit.

I do not want to go over 1K for this new system. As far as a video card and other things this system will need, what would you recommend? Keeping in mind that I do not have a grand to spend for this new system. I decided to come here for some professional geek advice.

  1.

Depending on how much you want to spend I’d suggest

    Geforce GTX 260
    Geforce GTX 275
    ATI 4870
    ATI 4890

Personally, I very nearly picked up an ATI 4890, there have been some deals on them for as low as $150 on newegg.com

Two sites to suggest for you, if you’re not already familiar:
    * http://www.slickdeals.net – search their forums for the cards you’re interested in, and setup some Deal Alerts too.

Fantastic charts of speed scores for basically every card on the market, great way to help you comparison shop. I always check this before making a buy choice.

    Happy Shopping!
