What would you suggest for a highend laptop?
by ohiocop on August 21, 2009Q: I’m looking to buy a new laptop. I’d like one with a fast processor, 320 or above 7200rpm hard drive, one upgradable to a minimum of 6 to 8 gb ram, and a dedicated graphics card. I want it from a maker that stands by their warranty and has a good reputation. I have 4 Dells and would prefer not to buy from dell again.
Looking at Consumer Reports most recent surveys of computer tech support satisfaction, Apple came out on top scoring dramatically higher than the other laptop manufacturers.
Lenovo basically tied with Dell for 2nd place, and Hp/Compaq was rated the worst overall.
Here is some data on some additional research as well: http://consumerist.com/5333031/apple-has-the-best-tech-support-dell-hp-acer-have-the-worst
These surveys only covered the big laptop companies and since you mentioned going really high-end in the laptop scene I’m willing to bet this is so you can do some windows pc gaming. There are a few smaller companies that specialize in this area that are worth taking a look at.

http://www.alienware.com – Alienware (though they are now a wholly owned subsidiary of Dell)

I haven’t dealt with any of these companies personally, so I suggest you ask around. Here are a few excellent resources:
