Video games your computer can run

by on September 14, 2009

Q: Can my computer run a certain video game?

A: We often get questions where people ask if their computer, with a specific hardware configuration, will be able to run a specific video game. We highly suggest visiting Can You RUN It? and Game-O-Meter. All you have to do is select the game you want to see if your system can run and then click on the “Can You RUN It?” link or “Can you play it?” links. This will then take you to a new page where a plug-in will load that gets all the information from your computer.

You are then shown a fancy little graph that tells you if your computer will run the video game slow or fast. Below that you are then told if your computer meets or exceeds the minimum requirements for the game and you are also told if your computer meets or exceeds the recommended requirements for a game. This can help you figure out what you might need to upgrade to be able to play the game or make the game run faster if you are shown that it will run on the slow side. In an ideal world you would want to beat the recommended requirements to really enjoy the game but if you meet or exceed the minimum requirements then you can most certainly play the game.

We should clarify that the two websites only work for Windows based computers and only covers games. We are not sure if this will change down the road but it should be very helpful to anyone that has a computer and wants to know if they can run a video game before buying it.
