Q: How does someone start a website that can make money and how does one make the money?

  1.

There are two basic places to start. The first is to look around and figure out if there is a product or service out there that can be made better. If you can make something better then this might be a good place to start. If you think about it this is what people do when they flip houses. They find a house that is beat up and ugly and they make it better on a budget and then sell it for a profit.

The other option would be to come up with a completely original idea. This would be a product or service that fills a need that some consumers might have.

Once you have the idea the next step would be to figure out if the idea is possible. For example, coming up with an idea to go to the moon might not really be possible for most of us unless we have Bill Gates type money. it is also possible that your idea is just so technically advanced that it would take say $10.00 worth of computer processing time to do something that you would only be able to charge $5.00 for and if that is the case it would be difficult to make money.

Once you have the idea and you are pretty sure it is feasible then you really need to come up with a business plan. For some people a business plan would outline how they product or service would make money. Some ways you might make money would be advertising or subscriptions.

Some business plans don’t include things like making money, take twitter for example, they have been around a few years and they still don’t know how they are going to make money. Their business plan was to grow and get lots of people using them, get money from investors, and then down the road when they have hundreds of millions of users then worry about the money.

You will notice that some of these steps over lap with each other but that is a good thing because it makes you look at everything from different angles to figure out if your idea is a good idea and if it can make money.
