Are there free web hosts that let you use your own domain name?

Q: I have registered a domain name and I want to host it for free, what should I do? I have registered at many free hosting sites but I am not able to use my domain name.

  1.

You should note that all the free options I know about do not allow you to actually write all your own code. They have either templates you can pick from or they have editors that limit you as to what you can modify. The reason for this is that they give you free hosting, in most cases, in exchange for links back to them and for showing ads for them. This means you probably wont find a free web host that lets you FTP to the site to upload your own files.

The first free host that lets you use your own domain is Blogspot.com and they have an easy to follow support page that will explain how to get your own domain working.

Another option would be to use Google page creator. This has more disk space than most of the others but they are a little more strict as to what you can do in that they don’t allow you to write your own javascript. To use them and your domain you need to sign up for Google apps for your domain.

The last option I know about is Freewebs.com. They give you a little more power in that they will let you write your own javascript but they give you less disk space than Google page creator. They also have an easy to follow support page for how to use your own domain.
