How come I get disconnected form the Internet when my phone rings or I make a call?

Q: When I am using the Internet or I am on xbox live I get kicked off when my phone rings or I try to make a call. What is the problem and how can I fix it?

I am going to assume you are using DSL. What you need to do is make sure you have filters on all your phones lines. They should have come with your DSL modem and they are little boxes with a phone cable on one side and an input for a phone cable on the other.

If you have these filters on all your phones what I would do is disconnect all your phones and connect to the internet. Then using a cell phone call your house and see if you get disconnected. If you do then you are going to need to try to move your DSL modem to another phone jack and see if it works there. If you get disconnected on all the phone jacks then you will need to get the phone company there.

If you are able to call with no phones connected and you do not get disconnected from the internet then we know the problem is either one of the phones or one of the filters connected to the phones. So just plug each phone in one at a time and then call the house and see when you get disconnected. When you figure out which phone it is try switching out the filter and see if that fixes it.

Chances are you will find that either one of the phones causes the problems or one of the filters is the problem. So in best case you will just need to swap out one of the filters. In an okay case you might just have to stop using one of the phones. In worse case you are going to have to get the phone company out to figure out what the problem is.
