How come I get a blue screen when booting Windows XP that says unbootable?

Q: I have a blue screen w/error message computer shut down to save information, unbootable, new hardware installed 0X000000ED. I cannot start in safemode goes back to blue screen and does not reboot w/ XP installation disk.

    You should still be able to boot from the XP Install CD. You might need to go into the BIOS and check your boot order (make sure the CD/DVD drive is before the hard drive).

    From there use the recovery console to run chkdsk /r
