Q: I am running out of space and I need more. I’m thinking of using a external hard drive. can you use that as internal memory?

If you purchase an external harddrive and plug it into your PC it will show up as an additional harddrive on your computer. This is a great way to hold onto data like pictures, videos and music and move it off of your main harddrive.

As far as backups go, keep in mind that an external harddrive isn’t somehow ‘safer’ than an internal harddrive. They can fail just as much, people knock them off their desks, etc. So if this data is *really* important to you, like family photos, consider burning the data off to DVDs in addition to copying it to the external harddrive. You can also you an on-line storage service like dropbox.com. Always have two copies of data if you really care about it !
