How can I recover data off our Windows Me computer when the hard drive has been corrupted?

by on November 27, 2009

Q: I have Windows Me. We received a message that says our C: drive is corrupted and we cannot use it at all. Is there a way to repair this or a way to retrieve our saved information?

  1.

Window ME hasn’t been supposed by Microsoft since 2006, I’d strongly suggest replacing your computer.

If this data is very important to you, consider taking the computer to a local independent shop for a price quote on getting the data recovered.

If you want to try doing this yourself, you can try creating an Ultimate boot CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ and running some hard drive recovery tools like TestDisk, which is included on Ultimate Boot CD.

Again, if you’ve never done anything like this, and really care about this data, get the help of a local pro. These steps may not work at all, or make things worse, try at your own risk!
