How come my computer does nothing why I try to edit JPEG files?

by on November 30, 2009

Q: I have Windows XP and for some reason I can no longer edit a scanned and filed JPEG document. I have done this many times, now no matter which way I click to edit them, from file, right click or the edit icon on below the picture, I get the hourglass for a few seconds, then nothing happens. In the past, I could click edit, open the document, crop and file and save, now I cannot get the edit to open up. Any idea what has changed on my computer?

  1.

First, I’d suggest you try opening the program you normally use to edit JPEG files, and then try to open your JPEGs from within the program.

If you can get that to work, then you just need to adjust your file associations for the JPEG files. Right click on one of your JPEG files and select Open With -> Choose Program…

This will bring up a popup window that will let you select the program you want to use to open the file. Click the checkbox next to ‘Always use the selected program to open thing kind of file‘ and then click OK and it will then open that file type with the selected application.
