Disable Norton to install software

by on December 11, 2009

Q: I am trying to install Microsoft Office 2003 on a new HP laptop but Norton keeps coming on and not allowing me to install. How can I disable Norton so that I can install the software?

A: Sometimes anti-virus programs like Norton can be a little over protective making it difficult, if not impossible, to install certain software programs. Some people see this as a bad thing but I see it as a good thing. I would rather my anti-virus program be over protective then not protect enough. You can disable Norton for a few minutes to install your software pretty easy but make sure you only do it for software you trust.

You can disable Norton by right clicking on the Norton icon in the bottom right next to the time (in the system tray). When you do this a menu will show up and you will want to select the option to turn off or to disable. Once you do this you will be able to install your software but make sure that you restart Norton once your software is installed so that you are protected again.
