How come my Windows XP computer keeps searching for an IP address but cannot find one?

Q: I installed Windows XP to my computer recently. For some odd reason, it keeps searching for an IP address, but it never finds anything even though it’s connected by Ethernet. Is there anyone who could shed some light on the situation?

    Are you able to get an IP address on other devices? It seems like your router might need to be restarted because it might be having a problem giving out IP addresses.
