What size power supply should I use for an AMD2+ quad core 9850 processor?

Use the PSU Calculator http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp to see how much power you need. Also be sure to spend the money on a good power supply. Corsair, Seasonic and Antec are all good bets.
You can use a PCI POST Diagnostics card to see any error messages that are happening before your OS gets loaded. Also, check your motherboard manual to see what POST (power on self test) notification features it has. These can include special LED lights and/or beep tones that can help identify if there is a problem.
