How do I get my computer to boot after installing a new hard drive and motherboard?

Q: I just installed a new motherboard and hard drive. Now when I boot up with the hard drive first in the boot order I get a master boot record error and when I put my DVD writer first in the boot order I get a boot from disc. How can I get it to boot up?

    You need to install your operating system on the new harddrive. Insert your windows (or Linux or whatever) cd/DVD and boot from your burner drive.
