Where can I find an email attachment that I opened from Outlook Express and then edited?

by on January 31, 2010

Q: When I open an attachment in Outlook Express, make changes to said file, click “save” from inside that file’s program (ie. word, excel), (no “save as” box appears), then close said program and I’m not prompted to save changes, where can I access that file again with the saved changes? I Did a search by file name, none that came up had the changes saved.

  1.

Usually if you just click on a file attachment to open it the idea is that you would just be viewing it and the file would be kept in a temp file somewhere to be deleted later by the system.

The best thing to do is to right click on your attachments and do a “save as” and tell it where you want to save the attachment and then work on it from there. The reason you wont find the file with a search is because the system gives them a random name that is made up of random numbers and letters and the idea is that by doing this there will never be a problem with two temporary files named the same thing.

I am not sure why Word did not let you do a “Save As…” that is very weird, you should always have that option. Moving forward just make sure you always save the attachment to a known location instead of just clicking on it to open it.
