How can I connect my laptop to the monitor of my old desktop

by on February 4, 2010

Q: I have a 6 year old gateway desktop running Windows XP. My gateway big screen TV is my monitor and I have a wireless mouse & keyboard. I just purchased a Sony Vaio laptop. What is the best way to connect laptop to desktop so I can still: 1) use big screen as monitor and mouse for the laptop 2) transfer files between the two.

  1.

To connect your laptop to the monitor you will have to figure out what kind of connections your monitor has. If it has an HDMI connection then you can use HDMI to connect the laptop (assuming it has HDMI) the TV. It should be as easy as figuring out which connection each one has.

To transfer files you will want to enable file sharing on one of the machines and then connect from the other.
