I dropped my Sony VAIO and now it says operating system not found

by on March 4, 2010

Q: I dropped my Sony VAIO from about a foot and a half while it was on and when I picked it up and put it on the table it worked fine. When I turned it off and then turned it back on again it got past the VAIO first screen while making repetitive beeping noises and then it said Operating System not Found.

I think that my hard drive got screwed up but I didn’t really have anything important on it other than backup homework files that were already handed in.

I was planning on installing Windows 7 (I am currently running Vista), which would mean that I would have to wipe the hard drive anyways, but I was wondering if I need to fix my hard drive somehow. If not, can I just run the Windows 7 installation disk?

This, however, raises the question as to how I’m going to open the CD drive which wont open now.

  1.

If hardware wasn’t damaged you could just put the Windows 7 install disk in and do your installation. However, it sounds like the laptop was probably damaged in the fall.

I suggest contacting Sony and see what your authorized repair options are so you know if it is even worth it to repair the laptop or to just buy a new one.
