How come my home phone and cell phone ring at the same time?

by on April 30, 2010

Q: Some how my land line and cell phone sometimes ring at the same time. One time I would think was just a coincidence but it has been happening at least once every few days for the past couple weeks. The two numbers have never been associated with one another such as forwarding etc. They both ring at the exact same time and my cell shows a private number but my land line phone is just a regular call like family or friends. This only happens randomly and not for every single call to the land line phone. How is this possible? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Windows 7 upgrade vs Windows 7 full version

by on April 30, 2010

Q: What’s the advantage of buying Windows 7 full version over Windows 7 upgrade?

A: The full version of Windows 7 allows you to take a computer that has no operating system at all on it and install Windows 7. The upgrade, while there are some workarounds, expects you to have a licensed version of Windows XP or Windows Vista already installed on the computer. This means you have to old on to your old operating system disc and license key in case you ever have to reinstall Windows again, which would involve installing the older operating system then installing the Windows 7 upgrade. Stop getting the open with which program popup

by on April 29, 2010

Q: I am using Windows XP and I am wondering how you stop the window opening and asking “open with which program”?

A: At the bottom of the window you should see a checkbox that says ‘always open with this program’. If you check the checkbox then moving forward every time you try to access the file it should automatically open with the file you select without prompting you to ask what file program you want to use. How come I cannot connect to youtube from safari on my iPod touch or via the youtube app on my iPod touch?

by on April 29, 2010

Q: How come I cannot connect to youtube from safari on my iPod touch or via the youtube app on my iPod touch but everything else seems to work? I tried letting my iPod touch battery die and everything else I can think of besides resetting/restoring back to factory settings because I don’t want to lose everything and there is no way for me to get to my home computer for a while.

by on April 29, 2010

Q: I have a dell computer running Windows XP. I have some bad virus deep in the registries (per mcaffee support) that they tried to clear for 3 days but could not. I’ve been trying for weeks but cannot. Can I format my hard drive and install Windows 7 or is the windows 7 software just an upgrade? I do have all my personal stuff backed up on an external drive.

Is there anyway to backup my text message conversation on my Motorola Backflip?

by on April 29, 2010

Q: I want this text message conversation off my phone but stored on my computer somehow. I have a Motorola Backflip from AT&T and I have a rather lengthy conversation that I can’t figure out how to extract from the phone. My options from the conversation window seem to be only to attach a file to send to the person I’m having the conversation with, or to delete the conversation. Is there anyway to backup my text message conversation?

Distance a WiFi signal can travel

by on April 28, 2010

Q: I have a computer with built in wireless but the closest WiFi hot spot is about 3 miles away. Is anyway to get the WiFi signal to travel 3 miles?

A: Technically it is possible to transmit a WiFi signal 3 miles because the record for the longest transmitted WiFi signal is 238 miles. In the real world a few hundred feet is much closer to the maximum that you will ever see and even then it is limited by any obstacles that are in the way. Maybe some day our WiFi equipment will get better but until then it will just be geeks with too much time on their hands sending WiFi signals long distances.
