How come video streaming seems to suffer after installing Norton Internet Security?

by on April 14, 2010

Q: My OS is Windows XP. I have recently installed Norton Internet Security. Since then, sometimes streaming video (such as youtube) locks up and fails to play. Without uninstalling Norton, I have disabled the Norton firewall and virus checker, This does not help. The only solution is to reboot and this always works. Eventually, the problem will return. I have also reinstalled flash viewer and updated java. Is there a way to clear my system (as if a reboot) without actually rebooting, or any other suggestions to solve my problem.

Looks like a lot of people are having this problem with Norton. If this isn’t a trial but a fully paid license I’d complain to Norton and make them either fix their product or give you a refund.

If you haven’t forked over the cash yet, uninstall Norton, and run their removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Then download and install Microsoft Security Essentials for free from Microsoft.
