How come my Dell Inspiron wont boot into Windows XP?

by on May 8, 2010

Q: I have an Inspiron b130 laptop from Dell. When I sign on it starts and then goes to a black screen. I cannot load my OS, which is Windows XP home. What can I do to fix this?

  1.

If your logging into windows and then going to a black screen then there is probably an issue with either a program you’ve installed or possible a driver like for your video card. I would suggest tapping the F8 key as the computer starts up to access the save mode booting menu. From here you can try loading with the last known good configuration, if that doesn’t work try booting into safe mode from this menu. If that let’s you in try uninstalling a recent program or reinstalling your video card driver.

Consider a windows re-installation/system restore if neither of these options are helpful.
