How come my laptop screen does not work after I dropped the laptop?

by on May 12, 2010

Q: I accidentally dropped my Toshiba laptop from my bed onto the hardwood floor. It was about a 3 ft drop. The laptop is able to turn on, and it does not seem like any of the data was lost or damaged. The problem is that when I start it up, I get a black screen that slowly goes blue. It is not a solid color, and it resembles an explosion. If I adjust my screen enough though, it goes to the login page. If I even touch the cover though, it reverts back to the blue explosion. What is wrong with my computer? Could I fix it myself or would I need to have it sent in? If I could fix it myself, how would I go about doing so?

  1.

The screen may be damaged. You can attempt to fix it yourself, though you may permanently destroy your computer. This would require the purchase of a new screen made specifically for your laptop model (you’ll need to google around for this). From there you can try one of these guides or youtube videos http://www.google.com/search?q=replace+laptop+screen

Even if the screen replacement is successful there is no guarantee that this will fully repair your laptop. This is all very at your own risk.

If you don’t feel comfortable with attempting this you should take your laptop to a professional or contact Toshiba for support.
