What is the difference with bit.ly and tinyurl.com?

Q: What is the difference with bit.ly and tinyurl.com? There are programs to shorten url’s. Does it make sense to establish a domain name to include in the use?

The basic functionality is the same for both. Both have a few different bells and whistles.

As far as your next two sentences I’m not sure exactly what you want to do. Can you explain what your planning on trying to do? Thanks

Say my domain name is israel.com. I want to capture an article from a site such as: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/12/bp-whistleblower-claimed_n_573839.html.

Can I establish a shortened URL such as http://israel.com/whistleblower? Where my domain name is identified and the reader gets directed to the article desired.

If your webhost allows you run PHP/mySQL you can setup http://lilurl.sourceforge.net/ on your webhost. If you’re using WordPress, you can use http://brajeshwar.com/2007/tiny-link-wordpress-plugin/
