How do I get those drop downs back into the single monitor?

Q: How do I get those drop downs back into the single monitor?

I was set up for dual monitors, but the laptop screen went bad. I now use the monitor for #1 and the laptop is disabled.
I have purchased a 27 inch flatscreen to replace both.

Before the screen went down, I would open some software in one or the other monitors and then the drop down menu would open in the other.

Now when I use a drop down, the menu is inaccessible in the good monitor. How do I get those drop downs back into the single monitor?

  1.

Go into your display settings, select and laptop screen, and uncheck the “Extend the desktop onto this monitor” box. Select your 27 inch again to make sure it says as your primary monitor, the laptop screen should be grayed out in the menu. Click Okay. The laptop screen should now be disabled, and all windows will come up on the live monitor only. If you did the settings wrong and messed up your displays, wait about 15 seconds and it will revert to the original settings.

    Thanks Mark,

The “Extend the desktop….” was already unchecked. I even reinstalled one of the programs. That did not make any difference. I also tried playing with the FN F5 key too.

Does Windows act like the other monitor still exists? For example can you move the mouse pointer over to the laptop screen, or does it stop at the edges of the 27 inch monitor?

The pointer stays within the confines of the monitor, does not go into the laptop at all.

Since the laptop monitor is completely disabled in Windows, then the drop downs won’t still be trying to show up on it.

This sounds like an issue specific to the software you’re having trouble with. I suggest contacting the authors of the software for assistance.
