How come I cannot print from my laptop to the printer connected to my desktop?

by on May 28, 2010

Q: My Vista laptop and my XP desktop are connected on the same network. My printer is connected to my desktop and I’m attempting to print from my laptop. I’ve installed the printer on my laptop, but when I attempt to print it says that an error has occurred. Also, before I was able to “install” the printer it said something about a .inf file not being found. What should I do?

  1.

-Both machines need to be in the same workgroup.
-Your desktop will need to be powered on at all times otherwise other machines can’t print.
-Make sure file/printer sharing is turned on via your desktop. -On the laptop, browse your network, find your desktop and install the printer.
-Make sure you have your printer drivers on the laptop in case it prompts you for drivers during the installation.
    -Print test page.
