What is the best software to recover deleted photos?

by on June 30, 2010

Q: I have a Panasonic DMC-TZ5 camera with a 4GB SD card. There are some photos on this camera which were deleted almost 2 years ago which I really could do with getting my hands on. I have run several demo versions of retrieval software and each returns approx 300 files after scanning 20% of disc then no more. The interesting thing is the files recovered vary in date deleted from late 2008 (before the photos I need were deleted), early 2009 (around the same time as the ones I’m looking for) and more recent. Is there any chance my photos are still retrievable with better software? I don’t care how much I have to pay.

Years ago you probably aren’t going to be able to get the photos back. If you *really* don’t care how much you have to pay, then consider going with a professional data recovery service. Having never used one I can’t provide a recommendation, so I suggest you look up some reviews on-line.

The ability to recovery data of your memory cards isn’t really dependent on date, but if the card has used the same block of memory on the card since the delete. So for example if you usually take 50 photos before unloading your camera, but one time you took 500 a good chunck of those 500 will be recoverable for a while since the camera hasn’t used those other blocks of memory in years.

    Hope this helps!
