Is it possible for me to install MySQL on my University web space?

Q: I have web space at my University. I want to install wordpress without having to use their database mysql stuff. I can upload whatever I want using Core FTP. Is there a work around for this?

WordPress requires a database in order to function. It will not work otherwise. Check with your IT Department at your University to see if they have this available, though they probably don’t.

If they don’t your best option is to use free wordpress hosting at http://wordpress.com/

I am interested in a way to work around that. Is there a file I can upload that will serve wordpress needs?

There is no work around. WordPress requires a running database, it quite simply will not work without it.

There is nothing that you can upload to make it work. My original answer still has your best options.
