How come IE7 crashes when I try to view a PDF file?

by on September 8, 2010

Q: I am trying to access PDF files from the website “snarescience.com”. Every time I try to open it, my window closes and Internet Explorer 7 tells me that a program has caused a problem. I’ve used this before, but not on this computer. HP Laptop with windows 7.

  1.

As a quick note: Windows 7 only runs IE8.

Make sure your Adobe Reader is fully updated.
You can download the latest version here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

The PDFs on that site work fine for me, so the issue is at your end.

I would try updating to the latest version of IE and Adobe PDF reader first. If your still experiencing the same issue I would try to save the file locally then open it with your PDF reader. (right click > Save file as) I also recommend using Foxit Reader. Its much faster and doesn’t contain all of the security vulnerabilities that adobe does. http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/
