The difference is that they are made by different companies. Intel CPUs and AMD CPUs can both run the exact same software.
As far as performance goes, there are thousands of different processors on the market, and from reading the model information is completely impossible to tell the difference between CPU performance.
If you’re shopping for a computer and need to compare CPUs I suggest using this site: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/
You’ll find detailed comparisons of how just about everything on the market stacks up.
Now, as far as picking a PC manufacturer goes, everyone uses basically the same parts, and runs the same operating system. I’ve seen lemons come from everyone and all companies have some customer service horror stores.
Personally, I’d be comfortable buying a system from any of these companies if I saw some positives reviews ( newegg.com & amazon.com ) and a great sale price ( slickdeals.net )
