What graphics cards can I use in my Dell XPS400?

by on September 25, 2010

Q: I’m looking to upgrade my graphics card on my Dell XPS400. I was told to watch the power supply because a lot of the new graphics cards require 400 watts or more of power supply. How do I find out if my computer can handle this?

Your computer should have a 375 Watt PSU in it, (assuming these specs are accurate: http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfb/desktops/xps_400/pd.aspx?refid=xps_400&cs=28&s=dfb ) and most video cards will state their power requirements on the box or on the manufacturer’s website.

Most of the mid range cards out now have gotten pretty power efficient so you should have a lot of options.

If this video card upgrade is to you can play some games, make sure the rest of your computer can handle them. Go to http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ to see if your other PC components are as fast as they need to be for the games that you want to play.
