How come Media Center requires I use an Ethernet connection?

by on October 3, 2010

Q: I connected my Xbox 360 to my Media Center but to do that I had to take my laptop off of wireless internet and plug it in with an ethernet connection. I had to do so, because my 360 is on ethernet and Media Center said it had to be on the same network. My question is: Can I use wireless internet on my laptop again and still be able to access Media Center from my 360? Or do I need to have my laptop connected to an ethernet connection whenever I decide to use the Media Center on my xbox?

  1.

Assuming you’re using the wireless connection coming from the same router that you’re using for an Ethernet connection, both devices would be on the same network.

If you were stealing a wireless connection from your neighbor’s house and have your xbox connected to your own router, the laptop and xbox would NOT be on the same network.
