How come I cannot use my Jazz DV171 as a webcam with Windows 7 but could with Windows XP?

Q: I’m trying to use my Jazz DV171 as a webcam on Yahoo messanger. It worked when I was running Windows XP but have since installed Windows 7 and I am having some trouble. Any ideas?

I can’t revert back to Windows XP since I don’t have the software for it anymore.

    Picked as best answer

You are probably going to be out of luck. The company that manufactured the camera would need to write new driver software for Windows 7. Given that working as a webcam wasn’t a primary feature of the camera to begin with you’re probably stuck.

The best suggestion I can make is to pick up a cheaper webcam from Logitech, ( http://www.logitech.com/ ) they stand behind their products with excellent warranty and driver support so you shouldn’t have to worry about being left high and try down the road.

Thanks for the reply and the info given 🙂
I suppose you are right, I need to look into getting a new webcam from a company that will keep drivers and support updated fairly regularly
    Thanks again 🙂
