How come my computer gets restored to factory settings every time it shuts down?

Q: Every time my computer shuts down it restores to factory defaults. I just got a printer with a new software program and it removes it every time. Is there a system setting or program that makes it restore like this?

There is software available that is designed to revert a computer back to a base state, still unless this was installed on the computer by someone it wouldn’t be happening.

Are you sure you’re getting true factory defaults, meaning *everything* is lost each time? Bookmarks, e-mail settings, wallpaper, etc? If not, what stuff holds and what doesn’t?

Is this a new computer, did you buy it used? Did the problem just start? What version of windows are you running?

It’s actually a company computer that my boss asked me to look at. it hasnt been a problem in the past, but we just installed new software for the printer and it removes it when the computer is shutdown. The OS is xp. Yes it removes everything including wall papers, and setting that were changed and any programs installed. Also it wont even let me change the time, which makes me think it is running off of a server from the companies HQ, where they have control over the computers settings.
