Why does my computer only get a blue screen at home?

by on October 28, 2010

Q: I have a really really weird problem with my HP computer I purchased in 2006. It only gives me the blue screen of death at home. I have sent it back to the HP dealer. I have taken it to staples left it there for 2 months. Took it to another computer repair place for 2 months. I just took it to the Geek squad today and again they couldn’t find a problem but as soon as I take it home turn it on I get the BSOD message and then a series of Beeps please HELP.

P.S I’m at my moms house sending this message from her cable modem and I’m not having any problems.

To help you I’d need to know the error codes and messages you’re getting on the blue screen.

I’d also need to know what version of Windows you’re running.

The user has sent in their blue screen image so I have added it to the original question. The user also submitted the following comment.

      “I have (Windows Vista Business/ Copyright 2007 AMD Athlon 64×2 Dual Core /processor 6000=3.00GHZ/memory 3.00 GB/ system 64bit)

Above i have attached a image i saved from online it is the same EXACT screen i recieve when i attempt to use my computer. I can’t tell you the exact code for problem caused because i did’nt write it down but the image i have attached is as close as i can exsplain. And yes i’am on my cmpt at home at this time i changed my power cord for now and pray that it will help some what. “

    Okay.

    1. Run windows update, and make sure you’re running the latest service pack of Vista and have all patches installed.

    2. If you’re still getting the error, odds are you have a problem with one of your RAM sticks.

I suggest running MEMTEST http://www.memtest.org/ to test the ram. Here are some additional directions that might be helpful: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic62524.html

Run a registry scan on your computer with a program like ccleaner, spybot, ect. Once you run the scan and restart you shouldn’t get that blue screen anymore.
