The use of a SATA or IDE drive requires you to have a corresponding SATA or IDE plug on your motherboard. So, if your motherboard has an available SATA plug, you can certainly swap out to a SATA drive. If it doesn’t, and you don’t want to swap our your motherboard, you can still buy a SATA PCI card to install in your motherboard.
