How can I connect my laptop wirelessly but keep my desktop hardwired?

by on November 9, 2010

Q: I have a PC that is hardwired, and need it hardwired for working at home) and just purchased a new laptop. I would like to be able to use my laptop throughout the house so that I’m not always at the basement with my PC.

How can I get wireless internet connected to my laptop and keep my PC hardwired.

  1.

First you’ll need a wireless router. This would replace any existing router might have. If you had one it would be wired between your broadband modem and your existing computer.

Setup your new wireless router as per the instructions in the box. After the setup is complete, test your old computer to make sure that the internet connection is working correctly. Then connect wirelessly to your router on your new laptop. Since this is a new laptop I’m going to assume it is running Windows 7.

So here are some instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/View-and-connect-to-available-wireless-networks
