Why does my HP Pavillion dv6000 go into hibernation each time I boot?

by on November 9, 2010

Q: My HP Pavillion dv6000 with Windows XP Media Center and HP QuickPlay has a bootup problem. After QuickPlay loads and I select the Windows icon, Windows goes into hibernation. I have rebooted several times and tried different keys to bypass that but nothing works. Even used the ‘restore disk’ (F11) function twice and still same issue. Occasionally I am able to get past it by pressing keys but nothing that works consistently. When it does go into Windows okay, I am able to update to SP3, load software etc. and even ‘restart’ but it I shutdown and bootup later it keeps going into the hibernation loop.

I have the same computer with the exact same problem. Ever get a fix?

Sixtigers – I have not heard from anyone regarding this issue. Sorry to hear that you are having the same issue.

It seems that this model of laptop has been plagued with a lot of problems. I can’t really offer you much of a solution since it seems others with the same problem haven’t been able to get a resolution from HP either.

There is also a class action lawsuit that appears to cover this laptop: http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/

The most information I can find is on this thread in HP’s forums, there is a massive amount of information there, so I can’t really condense it to a post. The best I can suggest is to review it and see if anything works out for you. Sadly this is probably a major hardware problem that you might not really be able to fix.

Best of luck to you both!
