How can I get my computer back to normal getting Animalware Doctor?
by Paulbc on December 8, 2010Q: I just picked up a malware program (Antimalware Doctor) and it did a pretty good job of messing up my system before I was able to get rid of it. Anyway, after I deleted from my system, I am having a serious problem with Windows 7. I had to uninstall McAfee because it kept turning off, and I’ve yet to reinstall it.( I used Malwarebyte’s to get rid of the malware I had.) Now, however, whenever I boot up the computer, Windows freezes at the Desktop. I can still move the mouse, but nothing else can be done. It will work in Safe Mode, I’m just not sure what to do next…
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
First I suggest ditching McAfee, it seems it isn’t being much help to you anyway!
If your computer is working fine in safemode, then there is some program set to load at startup that is causing you grief. Click ‘start’ and then type in MSCONFIG, and review the programs that are set to startup. Google search to see what they are, and try unchecking the box next to them to disable them from starting up, see if that makes a difference.

I might also suggest downloading and running a full scan with superantispyware in safe mode.
It sounds like your PC may still have a lingering infection.
If you are still having problems with windows locking up I may be able to help you remotely.
Once your PC is clean you may want to see what if your Internet provider has free Antivirus and if it is not McAffe install that or you can use Microsoft security essentials which is free from Microsoft.
If you are will to pay for a Antivirus Suite you can try Norton or Kapersky.

Okay, thanks for the suggestions. I went into msconfig, but couldn’t find anything out of place or that I didn’t already know about. (I’m all about keeping the computer running fast, so I’m constantly checking to see what I can disable from the start up). However, I did find some more crap trojans when I ran an antivirus check. When I rebooted back after that, everything was fine (even my gadgets were visible again), but now, when I click on one of the quick launch icons, we’re back to hanging up the system. Anybody got a suggestion???

Just a quick update. Today when I turned the computer on, the same problem with hanging was there, so I went into safe mode and went through all the programs in the msconfig. I also did a couple of “repair computer” through the OS utility. That seems to have done the trick, but I’ll let you know what happens over the next couple of days. Thanks for all your help, everyone, it was greatly appreciated. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a million times – geeks RULE!!!
