Is there anyway to backup the text messages on a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini?

by on December 21, 2010

Q: The internet on my mobile phone (a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini) doesn’t work anymore, probably due to an error in the software. I went to the shop where I bought it and the shopassistant couldn’t fix it. Now, he’d like to reset my phone completely, but before he does that, I’d like to make a backup of all my files and textmessages. The backup of the files is no problem, but I can’t find a way to backup my texts without having to use the internet on the phone. Can you help me out?

From your post it isn’t clear how much functionality you have with the phone.

Since it appears this phone is running android you can try this program:

Also, it appears that this is the file location for your texts:

Its a database file so if you’re trying to LOOK at it, it wont work without a db viewer. You can however back it up from terminal:

    cp /data/data/ /sdcard/mmssms.db

Basically it’ll copy the file to the root of your sdcard. If you have root access you can push it back after a wipe as well. You can just as easily use backup apps from market which do the same exact thing.”

In the future consider using the SMS backup app, or switch to a Google Voice number (if available in your area).

This answer was very useful to me. After making the backup I updated my phone to the latest version of Android and now my internet works again. Thank you so much, I owe you one.
