What is the best server for running open simulator?

Q: hey guys I have been building a virtual world for the past year on open simulator, and my question is this what do i need to build the best server for this software? processor ram RAID system. I want it to be able to host 1000 avatars can you help me?

    If you want to be able to support 1,000 active users at a time, you’re looking at a major cost investment. In addition to hardware you’re also going to need a datacenter grade internet connection. From the looks of things you’ll probably really need a cluster of servers.

    There are a number of companies that specialize in grid hosting, you can see a small list here: http://opensimulator.org/wiki/FAQ#Are_there_any_companies_that_will_host_my_grid_for_me.3F

    I suggest you speak with a few of these companies about what you want to be able to do to get a better understanding of what kind of load you’d need to deal with.

    You’re not going to be able to just buy a sever and plug it in at home.
