Will my old 5.1 Dell speakers work on my new Dell that supports 7.1?

Q: I just purchased a dell 8300 i7. will my older dell speakers work on that. my speakers are 5.1 mms 5650. if not what speakers would. 8300 has 7.1 surround. thank you.
