How come I cannot get my laptop Acer Aspire 5740 to work with my HDTV via HDMI?

Q: Why doesnt my laptop (acer aspire 5740) show up on my tv when it is hooked up to my tv with an hdmi cable? i would love to view my videos from my laptop on my tv but all i get when they are both hooked up with the hdmi cable is a blue screen on my tv saying no signal… can someone please help?

    Sometimes you have to press a button like fn + F5 to get the signal to go to the external monitor. Have you tried that? The F# keys usually have pictures on them that help you determine what they do.
