How come my computer makes a crackling noise when it is on mute?
by mandyo1 on August 8, 2012Q: Hi,
Can anybody advise me how to get rid of a crackling noise on my PC please? I generally use my PC on mute as noise tends to interrupt my work but recently I’ve noticed a crackling almost static like noise (whilst on mute) that happens intermittently. I don’t ever have the volume up high, if on at all, so I can’t have blown the speakers. If anyone can help me find a resolution to this annoying problem I’d really appreciate it. I have an Acer.
I am a novice at anything technical so simple instructions would be great.

Is this a desktop computer that has separate speakers?
For a quick fix, try unplugging the speakers from the computer to see if that solves the problem.
Generally this type of noise comes from some kind of interference from another device very close to the speakers or speaker cables, or from having a loose/bad cable somewhere.
